4 Food Ways To Beat Rheumatoid Arthritis

1. Look for allergic food triggers of arthritis. Be most suspicious of cereals and grains, notably corn and wheat, as well as dairy products and meats. Authorities suggest that you not try a wholesome elimination and reintroduction of foods in attempts to ferret out arthritis-triggering foods, without a physician's supervision. You can, however, eliminate a suspected from your diet to see if symptoms let up. Wait for at least a couple of days to a week for symptoms to subside before eating the food again. If the symptoms return, you may want to stop eating the food.

2. Forgo meat, especially bac*n, p*rk and beef. You may have an intolerance of certain meats. Also, saturated meat fats can stimulate the inflammatory process. Try a meatless diet to see if it helps.

3. Eat oily fish, such as salmon, herring, mackerel, sardines or tuna three or more times a week. Such fish oils are anti-inflammatory agents. Try a little daily ginger, another anti-inflammatory agent.

4. At the same time, cut back on omega-6 type fat, concentrated in corn oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil and margarines made from these oils. They can undo the benefit from the fish oils and also upset the chemical balance of fatty acids in cell membranes, fostering inflammatory attacks on tissue and joints. Meat fats do the same thing.

3 Reasons To Give Up Meat If You Have Rheumatoid Arthritis

1. Meat contains the type of fat that stimulates production of inflammatory agents in the body.

2. Meat may produce "allergic" reactions that incite arthritis flare-ups because of individual reactions, probably inherited.

3. Some meats, particularly cured meats such as bac*n, h*m, hot dogs, cold cuts etc contain preservatives and other chemicals that trigger allergic arthritis reactions in some individuals. This is in addition to the inflammatory properties of the meat's fat.

How Food Can Affect Rheumatoid Arthritis

It's now known that diet can squelch rheumatoid arthritis in at least two entirely different ways.

One: Specific food components, notably fats, can regulate the functioning of hormonlike bodily agents, called eicosanoids, which help control inflammation, pain and other arthritic symptoms.

Two: Rheumatoid arthritis in some people maybe a striking and overwhelming allergic-type reaction to specific foods. Thus, in one case, you might treat symptoms by eating certain food that, in fact, act as drugs to relieve pain, swelling, fatigue and stiffness of arthritis. In the other case, avoiding one or more foods may provide an instant and permanent cure, vanquishing the disorder forever.

Nobody knows why certain people maybe more vulnerable to food-triggered arthritis. One speculation is that some arthritis sufferers have abnormally penetrable or "leaky" gastrointestinal tracts, letting food or bacterial antigens (allergy triggers) pass more readily into bloodstream, where they set off inflammation and other havoc. Another theory is that bacteria in the gut feed on particular foods and then produce toxins that cause symptoms.

Then again, such food-precipitated rheumatoid arthritis may not be the classical disease at all. Dr Richard Panush, a prominent arthritis researcher, suggests "allergic arthritis" maybe an entirely separate disorder from conventional rheumatoid arthritis.

Nevertheless, the case for diet-connected arthritis grows steadily stronger.
